Ik , Ik means One. There is no duality or multiplicity.
Onkar Onkar means God. Onkar to mean That Which Was, Is, and Will Be. Ik Onkar, refers to the uniqueness of the entity we call God.
Satnaam Satnaam is a compound word and can be broken into Sat and Naam. Sat meansTruth. Naam means Name. So, taken literally, Satnaam means (God's) Name is the Truth. Name is the Word of God (also called Shabad). So, Satnaam means that God's word is the truth.
Karta Literally, Karta means the One Who Does.
Purakh Literally Purakh translates to Man or Being. So, Karta Purakh means the Being That Does All That is Done. All that happens is by the act/consent of God.
Nirbhau Nir means Devoid Of and Bhau means Fear. So, Nirbhau means Devoid of Fear (Fearless). Nirbhau is to inform that God is unequalled and Supreme.
Nirvair As earlier, Nir means Devoid Of and Vair means Enmity. So, Nirvair means Devoid of Enmity. In the context, Nirvair means that God is all-loving and does not discriminate between different parts of his creation based on any attribute.
Akaal-Moorat Kaal has two common meanings – Time and Death. Akaal hence means One Who Is Not Subject to Time/Death. Moorat literally means Shape. So, Akaal-Moorat meansThe Entity That Is Not Subject to Death Or Bound By Time. The word Moorat (shape / form) must not be mistaken to attribute any physical manifestation to God. It means formless nature of God.
Ajooni Joon is Birth. Sikhism believes that living beings go through cycles of birth and death. But God is A-Jooni, i.e., Beyond Birth / Death. Never was a time when God did not exist, nor will there ever be a time when God will not exist.
Saibhang Sai (Self) Bhang (Existent) means Self-Created.
Gurprasad The purpose of following the path of Sikhism is to attain oneness with God. Gurumeans Teacher, Prasad means Grace. Taken together Gurprasad means (God Is) Attained by the Grace of the Guru.
or self realization is attained by the grace of the Guru.
Japu Chant And Meditate:
Aad Sach He is True in the beginning, (before the anything (universe) existed) i.e True before creation.
Jugaad sach He was True when the ages commenced and has ever been True i.e True through all ages.
Hai bhi sach He is also True now
Nanak hosi bhi sach. (Satguru) Nanak (says that) he will be certainly True in the future also.
Soche Soch Na Hovai Je Sochi Lakh Var
Thinking does not reach belief, even if one thinks a million times
सोच से धारणा कभी नहीं बनती चाहे उसे लाखों बार सोचा जाये
Chupe Chup Na Hovai Je Lai Raha(n) Liv tar
By remaining silent, inner silence is not obtained, even by remaining lovingly absorbed deep within. i.e Prolonged silence and meditation does not quieten the mind
Bhukhia(n) Bhukh Na Utari Je Banna(n) Puria(n) Bhar
Hunger (Greed) cannot be satisfied even with loads of food (wealth or worldly goods)
Sahas Sianpa Lakh Hohi Ta Ik Na Chale Nal
Hundreds of thousands of clever tricks, but not even one of them will go along with you in the end. i.e. At the time of death intellectual smartness also stays behind
Kiv Sachiara Hoiai Kiv Kurai Tute Pal
How can then we realize the Truth and destroy fibs ?
Hukam Razai Chalna Nanak Likhiya Nal
Says Nanak live with His Divine Will means total surrender of oneself to the Supreme power (God).
